Fifth rank Notre Dame continue their great start to the season and move to 7-0 after another close win in South Bend.
Notre Dame defeated BYU 17-14 with the help of running back Theo Riddick. Riddick ran for a career high of 143 yards, even more impressive when you consider BYU came into the game with one of the top defenses against the rush in the nation.
With Tommy Rees starting for the concussed Everett Golson, Notre Dame’s running game was heavily relied upon. Cierre Wood had 114 yards on the day and George Atkinson III scored the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Rees only completed 7 of 16 passing attempts for 117 yards, but one of his passes found Tyler Eifert in the end zone from the 3 yard line to open the scoring in the first quarter.
Notre Dame’s defense was once again dominant with Heisman potential Manti Te’o getting his fourth interception of the season
Next week sees Notre Dame travel to Oklahoma to take on the 5-1 Sooners who defeated Kasas 52-7 yesterday and if Notre Dame can win next Saturday, they will equal their 8-0 start from 2002.
