It hasn’t been a season for the purist or lovers of defensive football, but the combination of the lockout and stricter rules on defensive players has definitely helped NFL offenses rack up some serious yards this year. Irish Players: Darragh O’Neill – Punter, Colorado Buffaloes

This time it’s a college punter, Darragh O’Neill who is currently playing for the Division 1 Colorado Buffaloes. The Buffaloes have gone 3-10 for the season (2-7 in the Pac-12 conference) but O’Neill has impressed in his first season playing college ball.

Irish Players – Neil O’Donoghue – Kicker (1978-1985)

In 2005 the deadly Neil Rackers broke the Arizona Cardinals record for most points scored in a season with 140, the record he surpassed had stood for 21 years and was held by a man who spent the early days of his sports career plying his trade for Shamrock Rovers.

Notre Dame v Navy, Aviva Stadium

In a rematch of the 1996 NCAA game in Croke Park, Notre Dame will once again face Navy in the Emerald Isle Classic in Dublin. The fixture will take place on the 1st September 2012 and will attract over 25,000 US fans to the Aviva Stadium to watch the longest running intersectional college football rivalry.
